The USB to DB9 Serial Adapter provides the connection between USB and the traditional RS-232 serial port. The adapter is designed for connections to Cellular phone, PDA, digital cameras, modems, or ISDN terminal adapters through your USB port with over 1Mbps data transfer rate. Since the adapter uses no IRQs, it is perfect if you need many serial devices attached to your PC.

WHEN it works it works well May 09, 2011

Over time this has proven to be less than fully functional in most situations on both Windows and Linux operating systems.
The drivers which are auto-selected by linux (which work quite well with other devices identifying as the same chipset) seem unable to properly communicate with the device.
The windows default drivers would rather respond to some random configuration from another universe than the settings I use most of the time.
Many true RS232 devices do not respond to signals from this device despite advertising stating other wise.
I have purchased several of these from many sources and find that unless you get the actual original you will have all of the above problems.
I suspect a knockoff someone has not fully understood the original of.
I have found several other models/brands/reported-chipsets with similar issues and have decided that in this instance getting an original branded the same as the reported chipset (example: if I buy a realtek chipset it better manufactured by realtek) will give you 95% or better positive results while purchasing third party devices using someone else's chipset can be a major problem.
It is a shame that more of the chip makers do not also manufacture the end product, or that more of the third parties would leave well enough alone keeping a functional device instead of breaking it.
